Porn club in college

SAN ANTONIO -- A University of Texas at San Antonio student is in the planning stages of forming a pornography club on campus, station KSAT 12 reported.



The student, Riley Jackson Starr, is posting fliers on campus in hopes of recruiting at least five students to Club X, which would watch and discuss sexually oriented materials.

"We'll look to see if it violates any of our policies here at UTSA," said Vice-President David Gabler said.

SAN FRANCISCO - It takes a lot to make San Franciscans blush, but even a city famous for sexual permissiveness apparently has limits.

A studio that makes pornographic S&M-themed movies for the Internet recently took over a historic landmark that once housed the National Guard, unleashing a rare public debate about when - and where - propriety trumps tolerance.

Kink.com, which distributes its videos on X-rated Web sites with names such as Hogtied and Men in Pain, bought the old State Armory in the Mission District for $14.5 million, saying the vacant building's dark Moorish architecture would make a perfect backdrop for fetish films.

"The basements in particular have a creepy, dungeony feel that is quite appropriate," said Kink.com founder Peter Acworth. "We have spent a considerable amount of money on sets to get that dungeony feel."

Acworth, 36, who planned Wednesday to oversee the first leather-clad shoot where guard troops trained for six decades, spent over a year negotiating with the previous owner, keeping the deal private to avoid a backlash until the deal was done earlier this year.

Although city planners said the studio meets zoning requirements, residents and city leaders have reservations about allowing people to be tied up, spanked and poked with mechanical implements in a working class neighborhood.

"While not wanting to be prudish, the fact that kink.com will be located in the proximity to a number of schools give us pause," Mayor Gavin Newsom said in a statement this week. He planned to organize a public hearing on Kink's plans even thought city leaders acknowledge there's little they can do to stop pornography production at the Armory.

Adding to the outrage is the fact that the building - erected in 1912, empty since 1970 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 - was sold after low-income housing advocates successfully killed proposals to develop the Armory into offices or apartments.

The Mission Merchants Association is in a bind over how vigorously to fight the porn studio, with some arguing it would provide an economic boost and others worried it would attract perverts, said Jean Feilmoser, president of the group.

"The mayor's office is weighing in because they are perhaps buckling to pressure, but that place has stood empty for over 30 years and all the different entities in the Mission District tried to get something going there and ended up fighting each other," Feilmoser said.

Acworth is a tad surprised by the squeamishness his vision for the Armory, which includes renting space to mainstream movie producers, has provoked. When he was a finance Ph.D student at Columbia University, he specifically chose San Francisco as the place to build his bondage empire because "it's a fetish capital."

"What are they saying, it's OK to shoot movies there but as soon as there is nudity it's not OK?" mused Acworth, who has hired a lobbyist, met with labor unions and used his own British charm to try to disarm critics.

Unlike a nearby sex toy shop and a club where people have sex, Acworth said his company and its 70 employees typically attract little attention and would be an improvement for a property where people made war, not love.

Until he started hosting "sex positive" parties several times a month at Kink.com's current location near a luxury mall and across the street from the San Francisco Chronicle, few people knew porn was made there, he said.

"Under no circumstances would they know more about what goes on in the armory than they do about their neighbors' sex lives," he said. "The walls of the armory are so thick, the idea that anyone would have any idea what's going on inside is ridiculous."

ONTARIO, N.Y. - It's not your typical church breakfast. An event billed as "Porn and Pancakes" is being hosted by a church in rural upstate New York.

The breakfast discussion on the pornography industry in America is planned next month at the Living Word Assembly of God Church in the town of Ontario, about ten miles east of Rochester.

A billboard advertisement near the church shows the words "Porn and Pancakes" written in syrup on a stack of flapjacks.

LAS VEGAS, United States (AFP) - Porn makers at the world's largest sex trade show in Las Vegas on Wednesday were taking a page from Internet superstars such as YouTube by tapping into the power of social networking.

Fresh young start-ups at the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo weren't just saucy women in scanty outfits; they were fledgling Internet companies putting erotic spins on YouTube, MySpace and reality television show websites.

A pornographic version of MySpace called xpeeps.com went online in a beta test format eight months ago, said spokesman Daniel Fairchild. It has proven a success and the finished version will go live this week, he said.

Like its mainstream role model, xpeeps has chat rooms, forums and even job listings for people with adult entertainment in mind, Fairchild said.

"Xpeeps is a porn MySpace," Fairchild told AFP. "Take out the drama; take out the children and add sex and you have xpeeps. It's cool for adults obviously."

The website is an online community for porn industry professionals, amateurs, and fans.

The North Carolina company also launched a "porn version of YouTube" called PornoTube six months ago, Fairchild said.

PornoTube has rocketed into the top 20 websites when it comes to the number of online visitors, according to statistics from industry research firm Alexis.

"YouTube turned off anything naked," Fairchild said. "We opened it up."

Relaxx Entertainment recruited young women from MySpace to be in a "MySpace Invaders" interactive porn CD that also links viewers to the performers' pages on the popular social website.

"We invaded MySpace to do it, thus the title," said Tom Ashley of two-year-old Relaxx. "It took a while for the girls to think it was real. They get this kind of stuff all the time."

The 20 women in the video were paid from 150 dollars to 500 dollars, depending on what they did on camera, Ashley said. The CD will be sold internationally via the Internet beginning in two weeks, he added.

A trio of real estate brokers turned online reality porn entrepreneurs founded the company Wink and got their website going just two days before the start of the expo.

"The real estate market went soft so we went for something hard," said Wink co-founder Brian Kavanagh. "It's a site where girls troll around, pick up guys, throw them on a bed and take care of business."

The men and women pictured as meeting in the streaming video are people who were found on the Internet and hired by Wink for performances, said a co-founder that went by the name "Mr. N."

"We try for an amateur reality kind of thing," Mr. N told AFP.

Wink charges a monthly subscription and was expanding into selling "porn clothes for porn people" online, Kavanagh said.

Shirtless men with chiseled frames encouraged promised attendees that scintillating male action video was streamed in broadband glory at NakedSword.com.

MovieMonster and U-Rent were among the array of websites peddling online sales or rentals of adult videos, and a service that mailed people porn movie DVDs rented online dubbed itself "the NetFlix of porn."

PPV Networks used the opening day of the expo to unveil a new platform for pay-per-view video-on-demand (VOD) websites to cash in on the exploding market.

"The trend is to online distribution and VOD," said a representative from adult VOD website firm Yappo.com. "The brick-and-mortar stores are out of it."

Madden 07 full of porn

Christmas turned X-rated for a 14-year-old Utah boy who found pornography, not football, on a video game bought in Modesto.

Kolton Mahoney said he saw an explicit image on the television screen after putting the Madden NFL 07 game into his new Xbox 360 console. He received the popular game as a gift from his uncle, Dan Mahoney of Manteca, who said he bought it at Circuit City in Modesto on Dec. 2.

"This is definitely not Madden," Kolton said, recalling his first thought. His parents saw the video and said they were stunned.

The game was manufactured by Electronic Arts of Redwood City. It arrived in Utah still in a factory-sealed case, said Kolton's mother, Linda Mahoney.

Dan Mahoney said he was in Modesto shopping and dropped by the Circuit City on Dale Road.

"It was a brand new game," he said from his home Saturday night. "It was entirely wrapped with those security seals on them."

He said he gift-wrapped the game and brought it along on his trip to visit his brother, sister-in-law and five children at Christmas in Layton, Utah.

He said Kolton told him, "There's porn on this."

"Somebody had to have done something at the factory," said Dan Mahoney, adding that he did not see the image. "I just happened to get that copy."

The Mahoneys, according to the Standard-Examiner of Ogden, said they called representatives from Electronic Arts and the Modesto Circuit City.

"I haven't been told anything," said Kristin White, entertainment sales manager for the Modesto store. "I haven't heard any complaints … and that would have been the hot topic among the employees."

Stephanie Nightlinger, a spokeswoman for Richmond. Va.-based Circuit City, said company officials learned of the problem from the Ogden newspaper. Nightlinger said she knew of no other complaints but that the company would investigate.

Electronic Arts did not return calls from The Standard-Examiner seeking comment.

The Mahoneys have contacted Utah's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force about the problem. It will work with local police and California authorities to determine how the video game was altered, task force Lt. Rhett McQuiston said.

"The hard part will be finding out who did it," he said. "We'll give it a shot."

Dan Mahoney said that when next Christmas comes, if nephew Kolton wants another video game, he won't hesitate to buy it. "I don't like it at all," he said. "I just happened to get the wrong one."
