I occasionally get obsessed with a certain actress or muscian, or writer. I guess that's just what it means to be a fan. I don't stalk them or anything, but I have to find out all about them, see everything or hear, or read everything they've ever done.

It's often no one anyone else has ever heard of. E.G. Daily, for instance.

I think I first developed this one in 1986. I remember being home, one night, on a saturday. I was at the age where this was unusual. But I think my car ( a horrible 1976 mustang) was broke. So I stayed home. And, in 1986, what did you do when you were home on saturday night? Watch Saturday Night Live, of course.

At that time the show wasn't horrible. Or was it? I don't remember. I think it was the Dana Carvey era. The musical guest that night was E.G. Daily, who I had never heard of.

Except when she came on, I realized I had. I don't remember what song it was but I had heard it. Like something that was played on the radio. But not the kind of thing I was into. I was into metal, then. You know that Heavy Metal Parking lot video? I was there, dude. I lived that. Not in that exact video but I was like one of those guys. Drunk, loud, stupid, and a big fan of Judas Priest.

But E.G. Daily came on, in a fru fru new wave looking outfit. As she was singing and dancing her little heart out I realized I recognized her. She had been in Valley Girl as the slutty one. And in Peewee's Big Adventure as Dottie.

Ah, now you recognize her, huh?

But she was so cute up there on the stage on SNL. But she seemed to get nervous halfway through. She sort of...faltered. I didn't notice if it was that she was lip syncing and messed it up or what. But it was like the audience suddenly seemed to turn against her. You could see it in her eyes. She was doing fine and then something just seemed to change. She was scared.

She kept on. You could see that on her face, too. Like she was scared but she'd damn well finish the song.

And then, when it was over, no one applauded.

I don't really know what happened. At the time I thought it was just that she was inexperienced. That she had been a small time actress who had just...strectched herself too far.

My heart went out to her.

I freely admit that I'm an overly sentimental dork. I'm the kind of guy who walks down a city street and has to give money to every single bum on it. That's why I only venture down from my compound on Hawk Pride Mountain in Alabama once a year

But it wasn't that. She hadn't overreached. Look her up on imdb.com. Of course, that didn't exist back then. I sort of had something similar in my head. I went and rewatched Better Off Dead, and she was in that. Singing. She's the singer at the dance. She does fine. And then I noticed she was on the soundtrack of a lot of films. Hell, she's on the Scarface soundtrack.

Then later, I didn't see her in much stuff.

I started hearing her voice in my head....no, that's a joke. But I did start hearing her voice on cartoons. She's Chuckie on the cartoon Rugrats. She was Buttercup on the Powerpuff Girls. My favorite powerpuff. Hell, she was the voice of Phoebe in one ep of Friends. She sang Smelly Cat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TleCudP_VrU Damn, it really was like she was in my head. Everywhere I went I heard her voice.
She's in a lot of other stuff. It's like she picks good scripts or concepts.

But here it is, 2008. Tonight I was watching Peewee's Big Adventure and I remembered all of that. Now we have the internet, I looked her up on imdb and did some youtube searches. She seems to be doing ok. That's good. She's not a big star but she still works.
